Best curry in town
On Friday night we ate at Mayura lounge bar in C/Gerona 57 (Tel: +34 93 4814536). We had been in before for a quick drink, but thought that it wasn’t worth stopping to eat. Anyway, we decided to give it a go, as Isabel was “dying for a curry” and we had yet to find a decent quality “English curry” restaurant in Barcelona. The restaurant has lots of low level seating (armchairs and sofas with coffee tables to eat from) and a podium dining area where you can relax on lots of comfy looking cushions. The lighting is very subdued and they screen old B&W Bollywood movies behind the bar. There is chill-out background music. We had to eat at the bar (not as bad as it sounds - there is a calming stream running down the middle of the central bar) as we didn’t have a reservation. It seemed to take an age before our order was taken and I at least was getting a bit apprehensive, but eventually we order our starters (salad for Isabel, pakora for me), main course (prawn curry for Isabel, chicken tikka masala for me) and a bottle of Argentinian Chardonnay. We were in for a pleasant surprise. The quality of the salad and the pakora was superb, and the curries were excellent - easily the best Indian food that we have tasted in Barcelona; and it’s just up the road from us! I pigeed out on a chocolate dessert, and we went home feeling very content with our new “discovery”.
