Carrer d’Ausiás Marc/ Calle d’Ausiás March

Calle d’Ausiás March (”Carrer d’Ausiás Marc” in Catalan) in the Eixample Dreta starts at the junction with C/ Roger de Lluria (number 1) near Plaza Urquinaona and ends at the junction with C/ Lepanto (number 165) near L’Auditori concert hall.  It runs parallel to Gran Via, two blocks down from Gran Via.  The streets on either side are C/Caspe and C/ D’Ali Bei.  The traffic direction is one-way going towards Plaza Urquinaona from L’Auditori.

This street is named after a 15th century Valencian poet Ausiás March, who was the first poet to write in Catalan (or at least Valenciano).  Strangely his poems were translated and printed in Castellano four years before they were printed in Catalan.

Calle D’Ausiás March contains many fine buildings in the stretch between Plaza Urquinaona and Paseo de San Juan.  At the Junction with Calle Gerona there is a building which has round turrets and a beautiful staircase. This building was used for the Casa Decor interior design exhibition of 2005.

There is an entry for Carrer d’Ausiás Marc in the Ayuntamiento de Barcelona’s dictionary of street names.
