Carrer de Casp / Calle Caspe

Calle Caspe (”Carrer de Casp” in Catalan) in the Eixample Dreta starts at Paseo de Gracia near Plaza de Catalunya (number 1) and ends at the junction with Calle Lepanto and Avenida Meridiana near Plaza de las Glories (number 196).  It runs parallel to Gran Via and is the first street below Gran Via.  The next street “down” is Ausias Marc.

Calle Caspe is named after a treaty the “Compromiso de Caspe“ which was signed in 1412 to unite the crowns of Aragón and Castile under Kind Ferdinand I.  The small town of Caspe is in Aragón and sits directly on the Greenwich Meridian.

Notable landmarks in Calle Caspe include the Gaudi building “Casa Calvet“, (Number 48, between Carrer Roger de Lluria and Carrer Bruc) which includes a restaurant (also called Casa Calvet) on the ground floor.

There is an entry for Carrer de Casp in the Ayuntamiento de Barcelona’s dictionary of street names.
